WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY BRINGS NATURE UP CLOSE

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY BRINGS NATURE UP CLOSE

The first people to mutter it’s a jungle out there may have been those working in wildlife photography. Working with wildlife can be exceptionally challenging as most animals will not stop to pose and generally do not listen to commands of any type.

Some involved in wildlife photography liken it to baby photography, in having to have exception reflexes to catch the shot as it appears, as you likely will not get another chance.

Although not all wildlife photography involves jungle animals or zoo residents, it offers similar challenges. Taking pictures of pets can be a tricky venture and untamed wildlife photography can sometimes be dangerous. Even taking pictures of birds in trees can offer technical challenges as well as just being able to keep the bird from hiding behind a branch.

The proper equipment, especially lenses, can make a difference between good wildlife photography and a picture of a limb with something blue on it.

Showing animals in their natural habitat is a prime consideration and getting close enough for a recognizable picture is made easier with the use of so-called longer lenses. The right aperture and shutter speed on your lenses will help obtain that special, yet elusive picture.

Weather Conditions Affect Results

Obviously, wildlife photography in it natural habitat will be outdoor in the creatures home territory and the weather is not always cooperative.

It may be easier to wait for better conditions when trying to film a specific species, but better weather offers no guarantee the critter will return the next day for another sitting. When you see the animal you want to photograph, think of it as special sale at your favorite store. If you do not get it while it is there, it probably will not be there tomorrow.

Some pictures scream to be taken immediately such as a traditionally nocturnal raccoon prowling during the day or an owl sitting on an open branch in bright daylight. Both will be rare occurrences and it may be a long time before that opportunity rises again. Those interested in wildlife photography need to have the attitude to be ready for anything at any time.

There are a few important things to remember about wildlife photography. First, you are taking pictures of wild creatures and, for your own safety do not do anything that could be considered stupid that may cause harm to you or the animal.

Also, do not attempt to force the animal into performing an action. It may not be the one you intended and patience can often provide an animals natural actions and provide a better picture.

BEGINNERS LUCK – TAKING A PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

BEGINNERS LUCK – TAKING A PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

Looking through the lens of a camera can transport you to a different world. You are in control of the picture that you capture – to a certain extent. In order to make sure that the control is the right one it is important for beginners to take a photography course in order to learn the basic rules on which to build their imaginations.

Some Subjects Covered In A Photography Course

Aperture is probably one of the most important words that you will hear during any studies that you do which relate to Photography. This is the control of your light source coming into the lens. It plays a very important role because controlling this is dependent on how your picture will come out, perfect, over exposed or under exposed.

Over exposure is a term used to describe a photograph that is too light. This means that your aperture setting was incorrect at the time of taking the photograph – you allowed to much light into the lens which ‘burnt’ the image. This will show up in photographs that have a white, mist like appearance over the picture.

Under exposure is, of course, the opposite to over exposure. This is when your picture is too dark; you did not allow enough light to pass through the lens at the time of taking the photograph. This will show in pictures where only tiny light dots are shown or there is a black, mist like appearance over the picture.

In your photography course you will learn that these three terms are probably the most important when it comes to taking the right picture. Your photography course instructor will show you simple methods on how to control these in order to allow you the best use of your camera. Of course these days with the technological advances in cameras digital cameras and auto focus cameras will do all of this hard work for you.

However, once you have learned how to control your light source there are many ways in which to create different moods in your photographs just by playing with these settings. Most camera stores in your town will be able to offer you some good photography courses or else a simple search online will show any that are being given in your local area. Photographs capture memories that will last a lifetime so make sure you are armed with the knowledge to create the perfect ones by enrolling in a photography course to properly learn the tricks of your camera.

DECORATING WITH FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

DECORATING WITH FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY

It is no wonder that decorating with family photographs is so popular. Personal pictures bring back memories of good times. There are many great ways to display family photography in the home.

Classics

A quick browse through any home décor shop with lots of picture frames will find plenty of collage mats in big frames. A perennial favorite is a mat with thirteen openings, one for each of a kid’s grades in school.

Many young families also often bring kids for a yearly photograph with Santa. But having Christmas-themed family photography around the house all year can be too much. Consider saving these pictures for Christmas decorations or tree ornaments.

Creative Display

However, with a little imagination, anyone can present family photography in an unexpected way. If the display is interesting enough, guests may even want to look at it.

The family genealogy buff may not agree, but to most people a plain family tree is rather boring to look at and does not create much of a connection to the past. Instead, create a tree display with leaves made of family photography. For some, an elegant pen-and-ink tree with small black and white photos of the revered ancestors and relatives will fit the décor. Others might prefer a colorful stitched tree big enough to sprout fairly big pictures.

Vintage pictures make great decoration, but sometimes the old prints from grandma’s attic are bent, torn, discolored, or otherwise damaged. However, old family photography can be restored, repaired, and even resized for home display. Visit any good specialty photo shop for options and details.

Family photography also looks great when it is put in matching frames and massed on a section of wall. Mix and match frames of one color and style, such as all black rectangles or all chip-carved wood.

Use identical mats to frame the pictures, and hang all these very close together on the wall, above, below, and around each other. It is varied like a collage, but adds visual interest in the form of slightly different frames.

Go Casual

Family photography collages look very good in an informal room, and invite all viewers to make their own additions or changes. Start with some kind of bulletin or magnetic board and post the pictures that make you smile. It is easy to add new pictures to the display when the family grows.

Visiting friends will be amused to see pictures of themselves mixed in the family mélange. Keep a box of other photos and thumbtacks nearby in case anyone gets the urge to collage.

MAKING A STATEMENT WITH ARTISTIC PHOTOGRAPHY

MAKING A STATEMENT WITH ARTISTIC PHOTOGRAPHY

There are many ways for a person to express themselves creatively. Some like to write, others like to paint, while others choose photography. Artistic photography is a way for people to show the poignancy of what they see to other people at the same time.

About Artistic Photography

Artistic photography has been around since the invention of cameras in the 1800s. The earliest examples of artistic photography were no so much artistic as they were poignant, meaning specifically the photographs of the battlefield taken during the Civil War.

Of course, early artistic photography had to be simples, since cameras were only capable of taking black and white photographs. The subjects were often major landmarks, such as the Eiffel Tower in France.

As time went on, artistic photography became more varied. As cameras began to become more advanced, so did the subject of the photographs. They also became rather risqué as well, as a popular form of artistic photography was female nude photographs.

In the latter part of the 20th century, artistic photography was really coming into its own. Photographs were now in color, and people were using that feature to their full advantage. Artistic photography became a way to highlight the plight of humankind, not just a way to show different landmarks.

This kind of photography highlighted the lives of homeless people, and people from remote places all over the world. As cameras became increasingly more advanced, the ability to magnify an object made is another kind of art, in that it could be abstract since people could not immediately tell what it was.

Artistic photography has also become the medium for other kinds of art. For example, one of the challenges on the television show Project Runway was for the contestants to take pictures around New York City and create a garment based on what they saw. One designer took a picture of graffiti on a wall, and made a dress from the concept of that photograph.

The best thing about artistic photography is that there is not one definition of it. It is whatever you want to take a picture of and consider to be art. If you think that it would be fun to take a magnified picture of a flower, that is art. If you think that you would like to take a picture of an old sneaker, that is art too. So embrace this wonderful creative hobby!

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY PRESERVES HISTORY

PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY PRESERVES HISTORY

Portrait photographers have very special skills for they capture the essence of their subjects if they are good. Portrait photographers take pictures of tiny babies and their grandmothers that the family will keep for many years. Portrait photography requires special skills.

Surely those that specialize in portrait photography must have a keen knowledge of cameras and films. They must have knowledge of lighting, and they must be able to apply this knowledge. Those that practice portrait photography must select the appropriate papers for printing their work. Portrait photographers must select a tone for their images.

On the walls of many museums and in the pages of history books, there are many examples of portrait photography. The images of kings and queens from many years ago are available because of the skills of portrait photographers.

These kings and queens look majestic in most of these portraits because this stance was important to their station in life. Great historical figures from Napoleon to Winston Churchill gaze down from the walls of museums because of the skill of portrait photographers.

Their images document the important deeds of these figures. Skilled portrait photographers have preserved the images of Roosevelt as he led the nation during World War II.

Portrait Photography Documents Important Family Memories

Skilled portrait photographers follow a bride around on her wedding day to make sure that they capture each moment of this important event. During the course of the day, the photographers use their skills to capture candid photos of the bride, the groom and their families.

Some time during the day, they will probably take time to capture a special portrait of the bride and groom that will be preserved for many years so their grandchildren can one day learn about this special day many years before their births.

Portrait photography is important to capture the images of people at different times of their lives. A portrait of a first grader will probably be very cheerful and hopeful. The portrait of the same girl on her wedding day will show her maturity on an important day.

The portrait of a grandmother will be handed down from generation to generation so the family members will know something about their ancestors. The skilled portrait photographer will capture more than just the appearance of this woman. Hopefully, this portrait will provide some insight into the hopes, dreams and thoughts of this woman for her descendants.
